Clinical Trials

Will Insurance Cover The Cost?

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires health insurance companies to cover routine costs associated with approved clinical trials and are required to allow patients to participate in a clinical trial if they choose.

Health Insurance companies are not required to cover the cost of the treatment or procedure being researched; however, the clinical trial's sponsor may cover these costs (Many times the study offers the investigational medication/ therapy at no cost to the patient).

It is recommended that patients talk  with their health care provider and their clinical trial research team to learn what costs will be covered and what costs they may be expected to pay.
